Typology of psychological effects of youth social activity in a virtual environment
Introduction. The article reflects the results of a study that made it possible to identify the typology of psychological effects associated with a person’s social activity in a virtual environment. Theoretical analysis. In psychology there is data on the influence of Internet communication on various psychological personality traits, but there is no data on the typological features of the psychological effects of social activity of young people on the Internet and their structure, which is the purpose of the study. Empirical analysis. The study was carried out in the form of a survey of student age respondents (N = 280) using 13 scales of the author’s questionnaire and a cluster analysis of indicators of individual social activity in the Internet environment and its consequences using the k-means method, which allowed to identify three types of effects of youth social activity in a virtual environment. Conclusion. Three clusters have been identified that reflect the presence of typological features of the psychological effects of youth social activity in a virtual environment: the positive effect of cognitive activity and communication on the Internet; compensatory effect of unrealization in the physical environment; desire for self-presentation and self-realization through violation of rules. The structure of the identified effects reflects the level of personal immersion in Internet communication and the degree of its social activity, the specifics of activities carried out by means of network communication, the influence of Internet content on various groups of values and personality attitudes.
