Abstract:

Introduction. The article examines the applied level of prosopographical research in the history of philosophy through two forms of representing historical-philosophical data: models of the genealogical “Tree of philosophy” and the “Biographical dictionary of philosophers”. The relevance of the topic is determined by the growing role of digital humanities in historical-philosophical studies and by the need to conceptualize the forms in which prosopographical results become available to researchers. The aim of the article is to identify the cognitive possibilities and methodological limitations of these two models of representing the philosophical community. Theoretical analysis. It is shown that the genealogical model makes academic succession visible, but tends to reduce the philosophical process to formalized teacher–student relations. The biographical dictionary model, by contrast, provides a high degree of contextual and source-based richness, yet often lacks an integral visualization of philosophical continuity. Conclusion. The article argues that the applied level of prosopographical research has a dual structure: first, it involves identifying and mapping relations between philosophers; second, it involves enriching these relations with biographical, institutional, and intellectual content. A hybrid model combining the advantages of both approaches is presented as the most productive for the history of philosophy.
