Introduction. Practical philosophy is most often developed in the form of a study of tradition and its history. The article attempts to explicate the understanding of the practical based on contemporary culture. Theoretical analysis. The loss of reference points and the reduction of the ideal of self-realization to egocentric forms is a problem of contemporary societies. Contemporary axiological, teleological, moral, etc. crises cannot be overcome by restoring one of the historical versions of practical philosophy.

The article is devoted to the complex problem of the development of Russian Neo-Kantianism in the context of the history of transcendental philosophy. The general tendency of the development of transcendental philosophy in the form of “the history of motives”, identified on the basis of historical and philosophical analysis, is outlined. The formation of Russian Neo-Kantianism as an original creative direction is the result of its development in the context of German Neo-Kantian methodology and the pursuit of Russian philosophers for independent thinking.

The complexity, the rapidity of changes and considerable uncertainty of further social development reinforce the requirements for an effective positive influence of philosophy on what is happening. In general, we are talking about the modern concretization – based on the method of dialectical unity of historical and logical – of the fundamental problem of the connection of philosophy and science with life and practice.
