Abstract:

The introduction highlights the topicality of research of spiritual and moral motives for sustainable family relationships and significance of conceptualizing a person’s spiritual commitment to family values. Commitment to family values as a person’s specific psychological attitude can be defined as a system of views, beliefs, stable feelings, attachments and life intentions that are formed in connection with subjective significance of the values of preservation and development of the family as a social institution in general and the family as a primary small social group. The structure of spiritual life in S. L. Frank’s teaching and spiritual level of commitment to family values are mainly described on the basis of theoretical and methodological fundamentals stipulated in S. L. Frank’s “Man’s Soul. An Introductory Essay in Philosophical Psychology”. The theoretical analysis reveals elementary hedonistic, social, egocentric and the highest, spiritual, levels of commitment to family values. Spiritual commitment to family values is characterized by their incorporation into the person’s conceptual picture of the world, manifests itself in the person’s attitude to the family as a specific conciliar unity of “we”, can be found in the ability to fi t into a close person’s experience, to suppress one’s own chaotic instinctive forces for the sake of other members of the family, to experience selfless active love and desire to contribute to the preservation of the family unity. The conclusion summarizes the formulated provisions of conceptualization of spiritual commitment to family values and identifies application prospects for creation of psychodiagnostics scales and special programs for psychological family counseling.
