M. N. Katkov and K. A. Varngagen von Ense about Pushkin
The article analyzes the publication of the translation M. N. Katkov
now almost forgotten monographic articles K. A. Varngagen von Ense
«The Works of Alexander Pushkin» (1838) as a source of creative
ideas of the future ideology of Russian conservatism embodied in
the later writings of the poet. German philosophical criticism in the
face of Varngagen von Ense Pushkin perceived in the context of the
philosophical and historical disputes about Russia, the interaction of
cultures, folk and national, national and global. Varngagen proposed
the idea of the universality of Pushkin’s spirit, and enriching their
own, and world culture. The idea of «global significance» of Pushkin’s
genius and his identity – through a criticism of Katkov. «Questions of
aesthetics» is in their general theoretical sense and in particular in
the fate and the Pushkin’s poetry. Katkov is at the origin of the whole
direction of Russian philosophical criticism of Pushkin.
