Explanation of the Cause of Criminal Behaviour: Evolutionary Approach

Abstract: 

The present article proves the relevance of studying the problem of involvement and self-involvement in criminal behavior in the context of evolutionary psychology. It gives an overview of original materials of foreign researches about the problem of involvement of a person into criminal activity. The article uncovers social and psychological mechanisms of criminal behavior. The reasons and types of separate kinds of crime are described. The main motives of criminal encroachment are fight for status and resources by means of exploitation behavior strategy as a counterbalance of the socially acceptable model. Recommendations of researchers concerning psychoprophylaxis of involvement in criminal activity are provided in the article. It is shown that prophylaxis and penitentiary measures, in relation to prisoners can be shown in the form of elaboration of new strategies of behavior in prisoners and introduction of statutory initiatives which will make risk and benefit from a crime disproportionate. Results of the theoretical analysis can be useful for criminologists, criminal psychologists, and practitioners in the area of penal system.
