The causality of the presentation of the theme of kalokagathia in the period of antiquity and in the late novels by F. M. Dostoevsky
Introduction. This paper provides the analysis of the concept of kalokagathia: its interpretation in Antiquity and its subsequent influence on the novels of the “great Pentateuch” by F. M. Dostoevsky. Kalokagathia should be understood as the harmony between the spiritual world and its bodily incarnation i.e. the connection between the anthological and the ontological. This problem, which is enduring, seems relevant at the present stage of development of scientific knowledge. The analysis involved such methods as hermeneutics, synthesis, a contextual, comparative, literary analysis and others. Theoretical analysis. The theoretical basis of the study included the works of great philosophers addressing the problem of the relationship between the ethical and the aesthetic, as well as the works whose separate subject of study was the themes of the great novelist of the second half of the 19th century. Empirical analysis. The analysis examined the later works by F. M. Dostoevsky, and a comparative analysis of the representation of the ethical and aesthetic in the writer’s novel heritage and the understanding of kalokagathia in the ancient period was carried out. Conclusion. The study showed that the triad of «truth-kindness-beauty» realized in the texts of F. M. Dostoevsky, considered in the context of ancient kalokagathia, correlates in his work with the ideas of Christian Sophian unity.
