Method for assessing mental performance based on logical analysis, understanding and comprehension of the text: Theoretical and methodological foundations and approbation
The introduction discusses the relevance of studying mental activity related to the perception and semantic analysis of textual information. The research has noted a necessity of developing and improving the psychodiagnostic methods to estimate cognitive processes. The principle of level characterization of cognitive processes becomes primary for the theoretical, methodological and empirical foundations for the development of methods for assessing mental productivity in text analysis and understanding. In particular, the psychological concept of comprehension of the text by L.P. Doblaev played a fundamental role in the method development. The development of a method for assessing mental performance based on logical analysis, understanding and comprehension of the text is represented by preparatory stages, including careful selection of stimulating text material and preliminary structural and content analysis based on the method of expert assessments. In the process of analyzing the text material, the study participants go through six stages related to the logical comprehension of the text and the presentation of detailed answers. The verification of answers by experts involves scoring points according to specially developed evaluation criteria. The procedure for testing the methodology for assessing mental performance based on logical analysis, understanding and comprehension of the text included conducting an experimental study using this technique, as well as a number of psychodiagnostic tools dedicated to determining the properties of cognitive processes and their dynamic characteristics. The experiment results revealed significant correlations of cognitive activity indicators in the analysis and comprehension of the text with both stable psychological characteristics and those that changed during the experiment. In conclusion, further prospects for using the created and approbated method to develop objective indicators of mental performance are presented.
