The potential of intercultural dialogue in professional design training

Abstract: 

Introduction. The conducted research is aimed at identifying the potential of the dialogue of cultures as a methodology and technology effective in the professional education of future designers. Theoretical analysis. Scientific novelty lies in the clarification of the essential characteristics of the concept of “quality of training future designers”, which can be considered as a set of personal and professional characteristics of the designer, ensuring his readiness to produce new ideas, to create a popular original product. Another new point is the substantiation of the influence of the dialogue of cultures on the set of characteristics that determine the quality of training designers. Empirical analysis. A pedagogical experiment conducted in two universities (China, Russia) allowed us to obtain empirical data confirming that for the professional training of a designer, it is effective to study individual disciplines enriched in content and value by familiarity with the cultural phenomena of another country, as well as reflection of students’ own feelings, discussions related to understanding the potential of a particular cultural tradition in modern design, identifying commonalities and differences in both the culture and design experience of different countries, etc. Conclusion. The study has proven that a dialogue of cultures contributes to improving the quality of professional training of a future specialist in the field of artistic design.
