Reflections on the Media: Discourses of the Media Literacy

The article analyzes two discourses of perception of reality: postmodern and media. The main characteristics of a person’s understanding of their situation in the world are singled out. In post-modern discourse formed rhizomatic approach to understanding space that substantiates the state of so-called “new opacity”. The author makes an assumption according to which the idea of postmodernism can be reduced to the crisis of human interaction and a certain historical social environment in which it is closed in its own locality. Absence of the possibility to perform actions and be included in the general social environment means the death of the subject. In the article the author carries out a metaphorical transfer of the postmodern idea of impotence to the process of transformation of media literacy ideas in the context of interaction with the media as a possible way of overcoming the postmodern intellectual aporia. The protectionist theory of media education, aimed at stopping people from being exposed to the negative impact of media, was actually a statement of the postmodern idea of locality, which led to the emergence of the concept of “the audience is a victim”. It is hypothesized that with the emergence of social networks, a rethinking of audiovisual texts takes place and a new media social environment arises where a person is able to express himself, thus overcoming, therefore, the subjectivity crisis.
