Propaedeutic Course of Deontology in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language in Medical University: Perspective of Study Manual

Abstract: 

The article proposes the idea of methodical and didactic materials for the development and introduction of a two semester course of propaedeutic discipline “Introduction to deontology (the linguistic aspect)”, which includes topics related to speech culture and rhetoric and realized in the following main topics: “Business ethics in the doctor”, “Culture of scientific and professional speech”, “Good speech”, “Stylistic synonyms in the speech of the physician”, “Medical rhetoric in practical and scientific activity of the doctor”, “Communicative competence of the doctor”, “Speech strategies and tactics in professional communication of the doctor”. The target audience of the course is foreign students of medical universities who are taught in Russian as a foreign language (RAF). Teaching basic models of conducting a conversation with a patient in the framework of the discipline “Doctor-Patient dialogue” is carried out during the entire period of training foreigners at the Russian and Latin languages Department of Saratov V. I. Razumovsky State Medical University using the course content developed and tested during the educational process. The course is to be completed with texts about doctors from fiction, which will contribute to the formation of this aspect of deontological literacy in medical students while studying RAF. Including the new discipline in the 1st year will allow students to get acquainted with speech strategies and tactics in professional communication of the doctor, and to develop this aspect in written and oral communication, which will prepare senior students for studying deontology at theoretical and clinical departments.
