Smirnova Anna Yurievna, Saratov State University
Abstract:

The article briefly review the literature on burnout and work engagement (as opposite phenomeno)n. The advances and psychometric limitations of bipolar approach and independent approach to burnout and work engagement are analyzed. The purpose of this paper is to develop evidence for the validity and reliability of an Russian-language translation of the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (Demerouti E. et. al., 1998, 2005, 2007, 2010, version in Russian language A. Smirnova, 2015). The short version of the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory developed for Russian-speaking sample of A. Smirnova is given. Using data from 392 employees (generalized sample of working adults average tenure 7,4 years, average age 44,3, male 312, female 80), our confirmatory factor analyses suggested that the OLBI are valid and reliable. The short version of the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory are valid and reliable too and may be a good alternative to the full version. It demonstrates acceptable reliability (internal consistency) as well as factorial, convergent, and discriminant validity. Our findings suggest that the short version of OLBI offers researchers an alternative measure of burnout and work engagement, as shows higher, than the full version correlation with the work engagement measured with UWES (Schaufeli, & Bakker, 2003).
