The article is devoted to conducting a critical analysis of social and psychological works on the problem of envy. The purpose of this analysis is ordering and generalization of knowledge of its functions and appointment in the personal’s social life. Stimulating, affirming, protective, regulatory and controlling functions and the components of their offering are allocated to the article.
