Politics as a Sphere Where Ideologies Exploit the Social Myths
The article considers the political sphere as a space of social mythology objectification. The state acts as a mediator smoothing of the social contradictions with the help of ideologies, which are based on certain social myths. Exploitation of social myths by ideologies makes it easier to influence social consciousness. Each state through the prevailing ideology (which may exist in its formal or informal way) is implementing a specific development program thus exploiting the myth or set of myths. This is most clearly exemplified in the so-called classical ideologies: the basis of liberalism is innovative, progressive development, conservatism – sustainable development, socialism – purpose development. «The global myth», for example the myth of the hero, is the quintessential embodiment of the myth in ideology, the exploitation of social myths by ideologies. Organically combining the two levels of social myth – the «archaic» and the «conjunctural», – «global myths» affect society. «Global myths» go back to ancient archaic times and can be skillfully used by the ruling elite. The author wonders about the need, on the one hand, to reveal the destructive socio-political myths and, on the other hand, the use the potential of the constructive social myths for society consolidation.
