The Idea of Conciliarity and Its Crisis in the Period of Soviet Reality

Autors:
Frolova Svetlana Vladimirovna, Saratov State University
Abstract:

The article provides a brief analysis of the phenomenon of «conciliarity» as a religious, spiritual, and philosophical concept, which has had a huge impact on the formation of the Russian identity. It is emphasized that conciliarity, as an inherent feature of the Russian man, is manifested in various aspects of Russian people’s life. In the present work, an analysis of theoretical understanding of conciliarity by XIX century thinkers, as well as understanding of the Russian Orthodox phenomenon by contemporary researchers is carried out. The focus is on the conciliarity manifestation in the social sphere. Attention is drawn to the fact that the principles of conciliarity in Russia had been forming for over a millennium, therefore it is impossible to destroy the centuries-old foundations by means of radical directives. The transformation of the basic principles of conciliarity, to which the author refers Orthodoxy, the peasant land commune, the institution of family and family relations, in the Soviet times is considered. The reasons for the modification of the conciliar foundations of the Russian human life are analyzed. The main attention is paid to such phenomena as urbanization, intensive industrial development, and belittling the role of a strong peasant. The article stresses that the change of conciliarity is a natural process caused by the necessity for the historical development of society, during which its basic principles are preserved.
